If you’re on the fence trying to decide if you should see Schoolboy Q in concert, I hope this post will help you decide not to miss it.
Schoolboy Q performed at Louisville Palace tonight as part of his Blank Face Tour. The last time Q was at The Palace was in 2013 when he was touring with Kendrick Lamar. Sadly, I missed this performance and it will probably go down in history as one of the top local concerts I wish that I would have seen. (The best girl in the world was there though.)
There’s a handful of reasons not to miss the Blank Face tour.
First, Schoolboy Q has an impressive catalog and if you’re anything like me, you’ll be surprised how many of his songs you’ve enjoyed over his career. Even though the tour centers around his new Blank Face album, he still performs his older songs you know and love. Much like he did tonight, Q will perform his most popular songs like “Hands on the Wheel,” “Collard Greens,” and “Man of the Year.”
Second, his opening act is Brooklyn rapper Joey Bada$$. Not only is Joey Bada$$ a talented rapper, but he’s also got a knack for acting and plays my favorite character on the Emmy winning TV series, Mr. Robot.
Lastly, his concert was full of energy. Schoolboy Q performed for more than an hour only taking breaks to talk with the crowd. Tonight he joked about a fan who kept grabbing his crotch, another who looked “high as hell,” and how he wasn’t used to performing in a venue that has seats. He did a damn fine job matching fan’s enthusiasm as he ran across the stage, jumping along with the crowd.
Schoolboy Q put on an excelent show tonight and if you’re considering seeing the Blank Face tour, do yourself a favor and go ahead and purchase the tickets.
